Enigmatic Encaustics Exhibition.
Joya Paul and Ann Shier are encaustic artists who have complementary but different approaches to the medium of encaustic. They have been studio partners since 2008, exhibiting together in various shows in Toronto. They work out of Second Door Studio in the Distillery District where they impart their passion and knowledge of encaustic art through workshops.
Joya's work is a combination of imagery, both drawn or photo-based, with mixed media. Ann Shier produces colour fields with inspiration from Canadian Northern landscapes. Enigmatic Encaustics showcases the ethereal and dreamlike quality of this medium through two very distinct applications.

Luke Painter: Modern Wand.
Luke Painter's practice explores the relationships between historical and contemporary design and art movements by creating formal, narrative and tangential connections between them. In Modern Wand, Painter creates a series of sculptures, fabricated in glass and wood through traditional and laser cut techniques, which rest on interconnected and raised carpeted platforms. The work offers a space for the viewer to imagine the often contrasting themes of functionality and fantasy that played out in the 20th century in relation to art and design practices.
