Jun 16, 7:30pm: RPM Indigenous Music Showcase: Other Worlds. The AGO, in collaboration with RPM (Revolutions Per Minute), presents the New York-based White Mountain Apache composer and violinist Laura Ortman, who will perform a set of bold, melodic and experimental music. Ortman will by joined by special guest Diné / Navajo composer, multi-instrumentalist, and member of Indigenous art collective Postcommodity, Raven Chacon. Closing out the performance, Toronto-based Anishinaabe singer-songwriter Ansley Simpson performing songs from her debut album Breakwall.
Jul 7, 7pm: Join Toronto-based artist, writer and musician Vivek Shraya for a performance with the Queer Songbook Orchestra, a 12-piece chamber pop collective of queer and allied musicians. This performance marks the launch of Shraya's album, PART-TIME WOMAN.
Jul 21, 7pm: Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber. This historic New York band brings together a sprawling amalgam of musicians and musical genres to Toronto. Spanning from jazz to hip-hop and back these artists have been playing together for almost two decades. In the words of founder and The Village Voice writer Greg Tate, "Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber is a territory band, a new-tribal thang, a community hang, a society music guild aspiring to the condition of all that is molten, glacial, racial, spatial, oceanic, mythic, antiphonal and telepathic."
