Rita Leistner: The Tree Planters. Modern Canadian tree planters have earned a place in the nation's lore, art, and history. In this series we see them as never before. Trading her planting bags for studio lights, Rita Leistner returns to the bush to take formal portraits of tree planters in action, underscoring the extreme athleticism of these hardcore, piece-rate industrial labourers. The enhanced lighting captures a level of detail and dimensionality that evokes dioramas in a natural history museum while revealing the planters' animal relationship to the land in a heroic portrayal of the men and women reforesting Canada, one tree at a time ... more

Unsettling. Works by Basil AlZeri, Lori Blondeau, Duorama (Paul Couillard and Ed Johnson), Terrance Houle and Lisa Myers. Curated by Bojana Videkanic. To unsettle means to disturb, unnerve, and upset, but could also mean to offer pause for thinking otherwise about an issue, or an idea. This exhibition seeks to unsettle its site – the Doris McCarthy Gallery, the campus of U of T Scarborough, and the suburb of Scarborough itself.
