EDUCATION & PUBLIC PROGRAMS.
The Art Gallery of Mississauga's Education and Programming philosophy is built upon three principles: ENGAGE, THINK, and INSPIRE. These principles, combined with Creativity and Imagination, reflect our high level of compassion and appreciation for the artist process, provide the highest quality introduction to critical thinking and instruction – for all ages. The AGM is a thinking space to engage with art!

Education Philosophy.
The AGM's education and engagement projects and programming aim to contemplate, represent and interact with the vibrant and layered lived experiences of the city – its human geography. As the AGM presents high-calibre exhibitions, it simultaneously recognizes a wide range in the public's visual literacy and art viewing habits and is committed to facilitating equitable platforms that will allow for the full appreciation of contemporary artistic practice by all residents. The Gallery encourages and values difference and the nuances of experience in the pursuit of learning, critical thinking and engagement.

Engagement.
The AGM considers art as an evolving platform for dialogue on contemporary culture and presents exhibitons and programming centred on discussions relevant to its constituents. Informed by these views, the AGM aims to demystify contemporary art as valuable only in the institutional context and to integrate visual arts experiences into the daily life of Mississauga residents. Contemporary art knowledge and "art world savvy" as a final index of "experience" is not required at the AGM – rather, the Gallery welcomes multiple views, experiences and backgrounds to the evolving dialogue on art.

PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS.

Living Waters
is an interdisciplinary arts and environment project in collaboration with Corsair Public School and artist Christopher McLeod. Student projects look at the centrality of water to all environmental and sustainability issues. Students will learn about the importance of water to the Indigenous peoples of this region: the Anishinaabe, the Wendat and the Haudenosaunee.

Bridging Art aims to create an accessible space for deeper engagement between visitors, art and the community. This space offers the opportunity for visitors to connect with works from the AGM Permanent Art Collection and educational resources in the Resource Room.

Art Influx. Building on the dialogue catalyzed by our high caliber exhibitions, the AGM selects exhibiting or local artist to facilitate inspiring workshops that reflect various arts and cultural practices inspired by the thematics of our exhibitions. This project benefits our committed but also our growing audience, offering ample opportunities to connect with local and international artists and curators.

Roots and Branches
is a comprehensive hands-on approach to learning that facilitates FREE visits by Teaching Artists who collaborate with Teachers to deliver lesson plans and visual art-inspired activities that extend standardized curriculum, while exposing students to critical processes in contemporary artistic practice.

Skate Makerspace is a roving design lab that engages youth through a series of skill-building workshops. The project negotiates notions of public and private spaces and seeks to expand the conversation of where youths are able to gather, barrier-free, and in a way that stimulates creative growth and greater social engagement. The experience aims to increase youth employability and encourages connection to future opportunities of knowledge sharing.
