Jul 7-Sep 6, 2016 | special opening reception Thur 7 Jul, 6:30-9:30pm, artist in attendance:
Frida Kahlo: An Illustrated Life. At Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery, 901 Lawrence Avenue West, Toronto.
Famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo created some of the most iconic and challenging images of the 20th century. Her beautiful and evocative self-portraits have captivated the art world, with fans like Madonna singing her praises. Now, more than 60 years after her death, Toronto artist Franco De Simone reimagines some of Kahlo's most famous – and infamous – works using still photography and mixed-media.
From The Broken Column to Cropped Hair, De Simone's photographs evoke a feeling of having captured Frida during the creation of her own self-portraits... a stolen snapshot taken just as the final brush stroke was completed.
An Illustrated Life features 27 works, a collection reflecting the finest works of the woman whose vibrant and tragic life continues to resonate both within her beloved Mexico and the rest of the world.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to see these photographic interpretations of Frida Kahlo's rich, iconic works. A brief promotional video here: ww.youtube.com/watch?v=OtmQp7mk8PE&feature=youtu.be. www.francodesimone.com.
