Unsettling.
Works by Basil AlZeri, Lori Blondeau, Duorama (Paul Couillard and Ed Johnson), Terrance Houle and Lisa Myers.
Curated by Bojana Videkanic.
Unsettling seeks to trouble the narratives of the 150th anniversary of Canada by presenting alternate stories of national identity. The exhibition explores themes ranging from the indigenous history of Scarborough to the proliferation of modernism, from immigration to urban sprawl, and the underlying tensions between ecology and human intervention. The artists offer works that stand perhaps in opposition to presumptive understandings of what Canada is, and the land on which we live.
